About this Event

Soulgen Presents:

Are you passionate about youth and community engagement and development, active citizenship, environmental stewardship and storytelling for social change?

Do you want to grow your confidence and skills as a facilitator and develop your own toolkit?

Join this ABCD Facilitation Skills Training 2021 and gain the knowledge, confidence  and  practical skills on how to use ABCD, storytelling, arts plus your own unique  experience and strengths to harness the gifts of young people, organisations and communities for social impact.

Why

With one disaster after the other, we currently live in challenging times of increasing unemployment, homelessness, mental health, social isolation, environmental crisis and other systemic issues. While many different organisations, councils, NGOs, government bodies, charities, and start-ups are working on solutions, there is a greater need to work better together and adopt new theories of change and innovative approaches that move away from silos and deficit based models and brings together all different stakeholders, places young people and communities at the centre of decision making and harnesses their strengths, passion and creativity so we can enable sustainable development.

This is a time also that professionals are required to step up, shift their mindsets from heroes to hosts and grow their confidence and skills as facilitators of participatory  processes for social change and impact.

What

In this  training package you will:• discover the power of social capital and local, 'bottom up' and asset-based approaches to help bring about positive economic, social and environmental change within our communities;• explore a range of innovative strategies, tools and methodologies to inspire activate citizenship, environmental stewardship and build better futures;• discover the power of storytelling, community arts and innovative thinking to help bring social change;- discover your own strengths and grow your confidence and skills as a facilitator and host - build a toolkit of tools and practices that you can use in your organisation or business to work with young people, communities amd organisations.

Some of the topics that will be covered in the face2face training are:

- Asset Based Community Development – World Café - Open Space Technology - Circle Methodology –Placemaking & Environmental Stewardship - Storytelling – Codesign for Social Impact - Photovoice - Facilitation Skills

Asset Based Community Development

(ABCD) builds on the assets that are found in the community and mobilizes individuals, associations, and institutions to come together to realise and develop their strengths. Whereas needs-based community development emphasizes local deficits and looks to outside agencies for resources, asset-based community development focuses on honing and leveraging existing strengths within the community. Everyone has gifts. Each person in a community has something to contribute.

Placemaking is a hands-on approach for improving a neighbourhood, city, or region. Placemaking inspires people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces as the heart of every community, strengthening the connection between people and the places they share. Placemaking is a collaborative process by which we can shape our public spaces in order to maximize shared value. It is more than just promoting better urban design. It is about facilitating creative patterns of use, paying attention to the physical, cultural, and social identities that define a place and support its ongoing evolution. With community-based participation at its centre, an effective placemaking process capitalizes on local communities’ assets, inspiration, and potential, and results in the creation of quality public spaces that contribute to people's health, happiness, and wellbeing.

Storytelling is considered one of the most important tradition humans possess. It describes the social and cultural activity of sharing stories, sometimes with improvisation, theatrics or arts. Every culture has its own stories or narratives, which are shared as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation or instilling moral values. Every story contains a lesson to instruct the audience. Stories inspire us and teach us how to love, forgive, be just and strive for a better world.
