Event description
Hear Esmat Noori talk about his dramatic flight from the Taliban and his four year journey via detention in Indonesia to Australia.

About this Event

In fear of his life, Esmat left behind his family in Kabul and fled the Taliban into Pakistan. Using a fake passport he travelled to Indonesia where he spent years in detention, being a father figure and teacher to other detainees, battling depression and almost dying before being accepted by Australia as a refugee.

Come and hear him tell his story in conversation with Phil Voysey.

This is the first of four conversations in the series: Stories of Courage , Resilience and Survival . The series explores the power of the human spirit by looking into the lives of four extraordinary individuals. Upcoming Stories in this Series:

Sunday May 24: Ana Paula Ruiz: Ana had a rare lung disease that gave her only 16 per cent lung capacity. She had to undergo a dramatic lung transplant that transformed her life.

Sunday September 27: Sarah Jane Staszak: Sarah Jane woke from regulation back surgery to find herself a quadriplegic. She has overcome the devastation and anger of that accident to rediscover her love of skiing and adventure.

Sunday November 29: Vicki McAuley: Vicki’s husband Andrew died within sight of New Zealand attempting to be the first person to cross the Tasman Sea in a kayak. Vicki and son Finlay watched the disaster unfold and have found the resilience to carry on and live the adventurous life Andrew inspired.
