A Celebration day for girls - Castlemaine

CastlemaineCastlemaine, VIC
Sunday, Apr 26, 2026 from 10 am to 4 pm AEST
Overview

A Celebration Day for Girls is a one-day workshop for girls 10 -12, with their mother/female carer, for support at the threshold of puberty.

A Celebration Day for Girls is a one-day workshop for 10-12 years old girls and their mother or female carer, designed to support girls and mothers at this special threshold in both their lives, and to provide an affirming, grounded and connected celebration of the journey to womanhood.

The Program is delivered in 3 parts;

1. Mother/Carer session - Thursday 23rd April 6.30-8.30pm Castlemaine Venue To Be Confirmed

2. Celebration day for girls (Girls only session) 10am-1pm Sunday 26th April - Casstlemaine Venue TBC.

3. Celebration day for girls (Mother's/carer's & Girls session) 1pm-4pm Sunday 26th April Castlemaine venue TBC

On the Sunday workshop girls enjoy lively discussion, fun activities, and hear women's experiences of menarche and growth into womanhood.

A girls first period, also known as 'menarche', signifies the beginning of a girl’s fertile years and the menstrual cycle is an intrinsic aspect of being a woman for nearly half of her life. For many girls this is a time of embarrassment, anxiety and mixed messages about what it means to be a girl in a maturing female body. However, extensive research has shown that for young girls who experience menarche well prepared, with a positive introduction and emotional support, the result is higher self-esteem, fewer negative cycle related symptoms, favorable overall menstrual perception and easier subsequent births.

You are warmly invited to join this nurturing, fun, creative & safe space with your daughter (and her friends), gifting her your time, love and support and a space to allow curiosity and conversations to grow from.

The Celebration day for girls Program in detail;

1. Mother sessions - Thursday 23rd April 6.30-8.30pm

During this session, you’ll have an opportunity to explore your own experience of puberty and menarche and its relationship to the parenting of your daughter through this time. It will also cover the content of the workshop and offer you the chance to express your hopes and wishes for the day.

Your attendance at the mothers sessions is required to attend the Celebration day for girls and in to receive the greatest benefit for the program.

The Celebration day - Sunday 26th April

2. Morning session - Girls only from 10am-1pm

On Sunday, fathers or mothers are welcome to drop girls off - Arrive 9.45am

Interwoven throughout the day are fun activities (craft and other fun creative activities for girls), body & cycles literacy, practical tips for menstruation, lively discussions, yummy food, story telling and a gentle celebration of puberty and menarche.

MOTHER/FEMALE CARERS ARRIVE AT 1PM with A SHARED LUNCH.

Once all Mother's and carer's arrive at 1PM your daughters and I will warmly welcome you into the space and share a little about our morning together. We will then share a tasty and nourishing lunch together. We'll check in at the Mother's session regarding any dietary requirements.

3. Afternoon session - Mum’s/female carers join the girls from 1pm-4pm

Throughout the afternoon, girls are engaged in more creative activities while inter generational stories are shared.

The focus is on creating a strong sense of mutual sharing and support around menstruation.

The greatest benefits of this celebration have been found to be; the increased ease with which the girls can discuss their various needs (making available all kinds of other benefits) and the heightened connection they feel with both their mother and other girls and women in their communities.

By celebrating menarche we give a profound message to girls that this process within her body is important and valuable, and so is she, as she learns to inhabit and navigate her changing status through her teenage years.
