Hi, my name is Mel! I’m an artist and workshop facilitator with a deep love of vintage textiles and handicrafts. I offer a calm and mindful workshop environment where the focus is on sustainable materials, slow creativity and colourful joy. I welcome beginners to intermediate crafters to explore and learn with me.

Calling all sewing enthusiasts! Join us for the Sewing Circle - Visible Mending event, where we'll gather to revamp our beloved garments.

The Nest Community, The Sheds, South Pine Road, Brendale QLD, Australia

Join artist and textile enthusiast Mel Brady at The Nest, where you'll learn the elements and methods used in visible mending. Participants are invited to bring a beloved item of clothing that needs a new lease on life and discover interesting ways to hide a stain or small hole.Did you know? On average Australians throw away 23 kilos of unwanted clothing every year! * But with a little imagination and some mindful stitching, your favourite dress or shirt could be brightened up, reinvigorated, and worn for years to come.In this workshop you will learn the basics of visible mending: a little colour theory, hand-stitching including simple embroidery stitches, the use of patches, beads and other embellishments. These basics are transferrable skills that can also be applied in other crafts and settings.Mindfulness is also an important part of this workshop. Participants will be encouraged to slow down and embrace the meditative nature of hand-stitching, and the connection that mending in a group setting offers. Please note:

All tools and materials are provided.

No sewing skills are needed to join this session - as long as you know which is the pointy end of a needle, I can show you the rest :)

This workshop will best suit people aged 10 and up.

If participants do not wish to bring an item of clothing, materials for learning the visible mending techniques will be supplied

About The Nest CommunityMission Statement: We honour our crafting heritage by coming together in a safe and supportive community space for women to share their knowledge and skills to create and produce handmade items using reclaimed resources. The Nest Community is a registered charity based in Brendale.Accessiblity and ParkingDisabled carparks are provided for ease of access.
