The Centre for Projection Art (formerly Gertrude Projection Association) is an independent, not for profit, community arts organisation dedicated to exhibiting contemporary new media art. Since 2008, it has produced outdoor site-specific projection art events that exhibit professional, emerging and community artists.The Centre for Projection Art aims:• to produce and exhibit media art projects;• to encourage, develop, and mentor local and community artists;• to present free outdoor art experiences;• to support the culture and community services of Gertrude Street;• to share all that with other communities.

GSPF Confluence, returns for it's 15th year along Gertrude St. Nightly projections are enriched by our public program of events

For the last night of the 2023 festival we are excited to share two live performances on Gertrude Street. Starting at 6.30PM, Chantal Bala has created a performative piece intending to showcase the freedom of expression and authenticity through the lens of dance movement. She draws in different dance styles such as Afro dance, Vogue femme, Hip hop and her own choreographic style as a display of the development and explorative processes many artists go through before mastering their selves and their craft, much like the journey of life. The increase of energy and input into each choreography represents the enlightenment an individual goes through once they begin to let go, trust themselves and allow their conscious to just ‘create’. The climax, represented by her own choreographic style represents the art of self-trust, self-awareness and self-mastery.In the s﻿econd performance from 7 PM Juan Rodriguez Sandoval explores the tapestry of his artistic vision, from which a triangulating work emerges, drawing inspiration from the mesmerising dance of the flying pole (Palo Volador) in Guatemala. It stands as a catalyst, igniting the practice of futurist spirituality, ritual, dance, indigenism, immigration, and the celebration of transnational cultures and radical internationalism.As this creation takes shape, it invites viewers to step into a realm where imagination soars and possibilities abound. It is an offering, an invitation to explore the uncharted territories of the spirit, to bridge the gaps between cultures and histories, and to embrace a future where boundaries are dissolved, replaced by the harmonious dance of diverse voices and untamed beauty. In this work, the flying pole becomes more than a physical act—it becomes a symbol of transcendence, a conduit for connection, and a celebration of the boundless human spirit.
