The Centre for Projection Art (formerly Gertrude Projection Association) is an independent, not for profit, community arts organisation dedicated to exhibiting contemporary new media art. Since 2008, it has produced outdoor site-specific projection art events that exhibit professional, emerging and community artists.The Centre for Projection Art aims:• to produce and exhibit media art projects;• to encourage, develop, and mentor local and community artists;• to present free outdoor art experiences;• to support the culture and community services of Gertrude Street;• to share all that with other communities.

GSPF Confluence, returns for it's 15th year along Gertrude St. Nightly projections are enriched by our public program of events

A four channel immersive sound and light installation that plays with 16mm analogue projector light to metaphorically complete the construction of a ship that was unfinished by her grandfather.Two new works by Melody Woodnutt include a streetside projection on Gertrude Street alongside an installation work of expanded cinema within the Mission to Seafarers Norla Dome called, Fata Morgana and Death Shroud for a Ship, respectively. These works sit within a new series called Celestial Bodies which tie together the sea and the cosmos as vast bodies that sit above and below an ascending yet sinking ship. It is a poetic attempt to embrace glittering spectral bodies; at once our own and all else born of dead stars. Created as haunting silvery vessels of sound, 16mm expanded cinema, strobe, fog, a death shroud, and digital projection.&#x27;Death Shroud for a Ship&#x27; Installation is open from midday onwards. Please Join us for two live performance activations of the work with the artist at 6.30 PM and 7 PM. D﻿rinks from 6.00 PM onwards.Celestial BodiesAn ascension and sinking, swellsconjured between the divineand the dark. The Two together apartare a Sisyphean attemptbigger than your house,to posthumously finish buildinga 55 foot skeleton, a boat frame.Here, Fata Morgana breathes.Due diction, a spectral fiction startsin a ship&#x27;s absence and ruin.Atmospheres and celestial bodies never touchthe sea, but they swallow the vessel._﻿________________T﻿his event is presented in partnership with the Mission to Seafarers Victoria.
