The Centre for Projection Art (formerly Gertrude Projection Association) is an independent, not for profit, community arts organisation dedicated to exhibiting contemporary new media art. Since 2008, it has produced outdoor site-specific projection art events that exhibit professional, emerging and community artists.The Centre for Projection Art aims:• to produce and exhibit media art projects;• to encourage, develop, and mentor local and community artists;• to present free outdoor art experiences;• to support the culture and community services of Gertrude Street;• to share all that with other communities.

Please join us in an engaging afternoon with Artist and Curator Kate ten Buuren in a conversation with GSPF 2019 Artist &amp; Centre for Projection Art creative advisor Peter Waples Crowe and GSPF 2023 artist &amp; Centre for Projection Art Resident artist Lilah Benetti. The panel members will be exploring Black Queer Identities and Futurity through their practices and interests existing at an intersection of screen based mediums and presentation in public spaces and community contexts.Kate ten Buuren is a Taungurung curator, artist and writer working on Kulin Country. Kate’s cross-disciplinary practice investigates collective and collaborative ways of working, and her interest in contemporary visual art, film and oral traditions is grounded in self-determination, self-representation and the power of knowing one another. Kate is the founder and active member of First Nations arts collective this mob who make space for young artists to connect and create on their own terms. Kate currently works as the First Nations Senior Curator at the Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation and was previously curator at ACMI and at the Koorie Heritage Trust.Peter Waples-Crowe is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores the intersection of an Indigenous Queer identity, spirituality and Australia’s ongoing colonisation. Influenced by his adoption and later reconnection with his Ngarigo heritage, Waples-Crowe’s art is grounded in his first-person perspective and explores multiple possible identities. He works across moving image, collage, painting, mixed-media, fashion and ceramics.Lilah Benetti, a Queer Black artist and filmmaker from Naarm, is renowned for their experimental art practice spanning installation, sound, and image. Their work delves into the intricate complexities of intersectional identities, challenging Western norms and exploring pre-colonial gender expression within cross-cultural queer identities._﻿_______T﻿his event is generously supported by City of Yarra, Composite Moving Image and Media Bank and Collingwood Yards.
