PLD provides an Australian, evidence-based approach to Structured Synthetic Phonics (SSP) for primary school educators. Aligned with the Science of Reading, PLD’s SSP approach extends from the junior primary years through to upper primary years and thereby facilitating a whole school approach.PLD’s method is derived from the disciplines of speech pathology, occupational therapy and education. <h3>What to teach? When to screen? How to cater for the range in ability?</h3>This full-day online seminar provides educators working within the Foundation year with the knowledge and tools required to explicitly target pre-literacy and early literacy in a systematic fashion. This seminar explains the implementation of PLD’s structured synthetic phonics programs (SSP) within the Foundation year. It outlines PLD’s targeted teaching and the associated tracking and reporting of skill development. The implementation of this preventative program aims to set up young learners for success in their literacy acquisition.The presentation is recommended for all educators working within Foundation (WA).The presentation outlines:<ul><li>How children typically read first, spell second and write third.</li><li>The two core skills that enable a child to decode, the three core skills that facilitate early spelling and the range of skills that facilitate writing.</li></ul><ul><li>Targeted pre-literacy skill development early in the school year, so that the prerequisites for literacy learning are established.</li></ul><ul><li>Time-efficient pre-literacy assessments as well as decoding and spelling assessments.</li></ul><ul><li>The adoption of the PLD’s tracking sheets in order to establish a plan for the upcoming term.</li></ul><ul><li>How to introduce reading, spelling and writing initially in a supported and early childhood manner.</li></ul><ul><li>The instruction of high-frequency words and the relevance of decodable reading material.</li></ul><ul><li>Short speech pathology-derived oral language targeted teaching which facilitates the ability to speak in grammatically correct sentences.</li></ul>The Foundation school year is an important year of literacy learning. <h2>Terms and Conditions</h2>It is mandatory that all attendees connect with a webcam that is switched on for the duration of the seminar. This is required to verify attendance and any attendee who does not comply with this will not be issued with a certificate at the completion of the session.If you do not have a working webcam or will be unable to be present on the day with an active webcam, we suggest that you enroll in one of our Online Courses instead, as these don’t require a webcam and can be completed at your convenience and attendance is verified by the completion of quiz questions prior to issuance of a certificate.If you’re unsure whether you have a working webcam, please check with your school or the department’s IT staff prior to the seminar commencing to determine if you are properly set up to participate in the day’s learning. <h3>Refund Policy</h3>PLD maintains a 'no refund' policy, with the sole exception being the cancellation of a seminar by PLD. In all other cases of cancellation, individuals are encouraged to re-register for an alternative seminar. For cancellations made within less than 48 business hours, PLD will apply an administration fee of $25.00 and transfer the remaining balance to another seminar.
