We are excited to announce the second workshop for Re-School at Monash Architecture: Re-School is envisaged as a &#x27;call to action&#x27;, providing a platform for students to be active and critical learners who engage in dialogue around themes and challenges. Students will be participating with invited speakers, experts and facilitators to consider four challenges in architectural education. Our second workshop Making and Building will be hosted by Millie Caitlin, on Sunday 28 May in Collingwood Yards. Entitled &#x27;Live Projects&#x27; and situated within the &#x27;Autumn Room&#x27; Installation, this workshop will bring together students involved in designing and making this temporary structure to reflect on their experiences and share what emerged through the process. The workshop will consider a broader understanding of architecture by asking what it means to work in public, why it matters to develop live projects, and how we can learn through collaboration and collective action. Millie Cattlin is Co-Director of These Are The Projects We Do Together. Working with large site-based projects including Testing Grounds, Siteworks and The Quarry, the work of the practice is unique in its approaches to public space, creative infrastructures, and site-based programming. Millie is currently doing a practice based PhD titled &#x27;This Place Is Alive — Provisional Creative Infrastructures’. In collaboration with Monash Architecture students, a Design Make/Unbuild process is used to design and construct an Autumn room in the courtyard at Collingwood Yards. The room is constructed using the large Plane trees, which will be in various states of Autumn defoliation, as a structure. The primary purpose of the room will be to serve as an event space during MDW, and then it will function as a Winter room for the community/precinct after the event. The ‘Autumn Room’ is intended to provoke and demonstrate alternative ways of creating semi-permanent spaces in response to seasonal needs. It will propose a world that embraces current notions of degrowth, reuse, and non-disturbance/occupation of land. The room can be programmed for events during MDW by Monash Architecture and Collingwood Yards, among others. Architect Ross Brewin (Gilby + Brewin Architecture and Senior Lecturer Monash Architecture) will coordinate the Design Make project to realize the room, with support from Baracco+Wright Architects (Louise Wright, Practice Professor Monash Architecture), Nigel Burdon, Aecom, and in collaboration with Collingwood Yards.
