INLAND is a concert series of Australian exploratory music, spanning notated, improvised, electroacoustic, popular and interdisciplinary practices - aiming to locate manifestations of the experimental and antagonistic impulse without regard to guild nor discipline, and inviting creators spanning diverse sound-based practices to a shared performance context. Whilst also serving as a context for work by international artists, INLAND’s curatorial principles maintain a narrow temporal and (almost parochial) geographical focus on the work of living Australian artists.INLAND aims to create a unique space in the wider context of the new music landscape - one where concerts and performers are not framed in terms of particular technical approaches (notated as distinct from improvised, acoustic as distinct from electronic) or considered primarily through the lens of genre, thereby standing in constructive and complementary relation to its musical, artistic, and ideological neighbors.To date INLAND has hosted over 50 performances across Australia, and featured the work of over 150 Australian and international artists, including: Chris Abrahams, Oren Ambarchi, Natasha Anderson, Jessica Aszodi, Chiri, Peter Evans, Will Guthrie, Michael Kieran Harvey, Jessika Kenney,Okkyung Lee, Evelyn Ida Morris, and Anthony Pateras.Documentation of all previous events is available at: www.inlandconcertseries.net

Inland Concert Series

INLAND 19.5 EVERY PERSON CONSISTS OF A SOUL, A BODY, AND A NAME -- Part I: Anthony Pateras, Erkki Veltheim 7:15pm for 7:30pm start, Wednesday 24th April 2019 Upstairs at The Alderman, 134 Lygon St., Brunswick East -- Over four evenings in April, May, June, and July, INLAND will present talks by eight Australian sound artists.

-- Anthony Pateras (b.1979) is an Australian composer/performer whose current work focuses on electro-acoustic orchestration, temporal hallucination and sound phenomena.
Pateras has created over 75 works, receiving performances from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Australian Chamber Orchestra and BBC Symphony, commissions from the GRM, Slagwerk Den Haag and Südwestrundfunk Baden-Baden, residencies from ZKM, Akademie Schloss Solitude and La Becque, and fellowships from Creative Victoria, the Ian Potter and Sydney Myer Foundations.
He has released over 40 albums including collaborations with Mike Patton, Chris Abrahams and Valerio Tricoli, guested on records by Oren Ambarchi, Sunn O))) and Fennesz, as well as working in film with director Pia Borg, producer François Tetaz and literary critic Sylvère Lotringer. Aside from solo concerts, Pateras currently performs with eRikm, Jérôme Noetinger and North of North.
Erkki Veltheim (b. 1976 Finland) is an Australian composer, improviser, performer and interdisciplinary artist.
Erkki has been commissioned by the Adelaide Festival, Vivid Festival, Australian Art Orchestra and Soundstream Collective, and his pieces have been performed by groups such as the London Sinfonietta, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Recent projects include Gawanjalkmi (Song for the fallen) for voices and large ensemble (2015), in collaboration with Gurrumul and Jonno Yunupingu, commissioned by Skinnyfish and Gone West, Belgium; audiovisual performance work Another Other (2014/2016), with co-creators Anthony Pateras, Natasha Anderson and Sabina Maselli, commissioned by Chamber Made Opera; and audiovisual installation Fusion of Tongues(2015), commissioned by Punctum and La Maison Folie, Belgium, for 'Mons 2015 - European Capital of Culture' program.
Erkki has performed with the Australian Art Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Elision and Ensemble Modern, and has featured as a soloist with the London Sinfonietta, Australian Opera and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He has long-standing collaborations with indigenous musician Gurrumul, improvising trumpet virtuoso Scott Tinkler, and composer-pianist Anthony Pateras.
Erkki is a recipient of a 2013 Myer Creative Fellowship, and in 2014 was appointed Artistic Associate of Chamber Made Opera. He holds a Master of Arts, for which he researched connections between music and ritual.
