Join us for the launch event of the AA Prize for Unbuilt Work exhibition 2023. This exhibition showcases the 15 shortlisted entries for this year’s prize.The AA Prize for Unbuilt Work seeks conceptually rigorous, inventive responses to contemporary architectural issues. Its purpose is to promote debate and to generate ideas about architecture by rewarding compelling work in its conceptual stages. The AA Prize for Unbuilt Work is organised by Architecture Media, publisher of ArchitectureAU.com, and supported by presenting partner Monash University.The jury for the 2023 AA Prize for Unbuilt Work comprised Helen Lochhead (emeritus professor, architecture and urbanism, UNSW Sydney), Amy Muir (director, Muir), Kevin O’Brien (principal, BVN), Philip Thalis (principal, Hill Thalis Architecture and Urban Projects), and Katelin Butler (editorial director, Architecture Media).The launch will be followed by a guest lecture by Kees Christiaanse, the first lecture of the Monash Architecture Professional Practice Lectures series of 2023.L﻿ecture begins at 6.30pm in G1.04As founder and partner of KCAP, Kees focuses on urban design projects in complex situations and coaching urban processes. Paramount in his work is to reconciliate contradictory forces into coherent urban design concepts. His approach acknowledges that an urban situation is subject to continuous transformation and that urban (re-)development intervenes in this process. He developed the 'simultaneous chess'-method for urban design processes, in which multiple work- and process-flows are driven forward in a parallel way, in order to bundle all aspects of the planning process in an integrated way. He is an expert in the field of revitalisation of industrial, railway, and harbour areas, diverse urban neighbourhoods, airport environments and university campuses, as well as urban-rural relations.Kees’ ideas are at the base of many successful area developments, like HafenCity in Hamburg, Jurong Lake District in Singapore, Europaallee in Zurich, the Swiss Innovation Park and Wijnhaven in Rotterdam. As a professor at TU Berlin, ETH Zurich, Future Cities Lab in Singapore and TU Munich he has carried out groundbreaking research, resulting in several books and publications, like Open City, Designing Coexistence, City as Loft, Urban Breeding Ground, The Noise Landscape, The Potato Plan Collection and Kees Christiaanse Textbook.I﻿mage1: AA Prize for Unbuilt winner - Junk Tectonics, Feral Communities: The Metamorphosis of the Mildura Golf Club by Amelia Griffin-Toovey
