Club Chrome: Dyke Bar Takeover

UNSW Galleries brings together the work of leading Australian and international practitioners, curators and writers working in the fields of contemporary art and design. It is a space for the presentation and interpretation of contemporary visual and material culture, and a site for gathering, conversation and learning. The program stresses the importance of learning through exhibition-making, using integrated projects and events across the year to engage audiences in conversation with commentators from a range of disciplines.

UNSW Galleries, the National Art School and Sydney WorldPride present 'Eulogy for the Dyke Bar', an installation and public programming series by American artist Macon Reed.

Celebrate the joy of overt queer sexuality with us, tipping is encouraged!Club Chrome is Australia's first LGBTQIA+ pole dance collective consisting of queer artists at the intersections of the POC and sex worker communities. Together they explore and push the boundaries of pole dance as an art form while always referring back to pole’s origins in sex work. Club Chrome is invested in showcasing art from bodies that may otherwise be unrepresented, by performing in spaces that are normally delineated by convention, race, and class. The installation incorporates a café and operating bar, and functions as an active community space for performances, cruising, socialising, and contemplating the future of queer spaces. This project reclaims the term ‘dyke’ in its most expansive sense and recognises that gender and identities are complex and fluid.
