Koalas and Eucalypts: what they need and what we can do.

Australian Plant Communities - Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-tha

The Australian Koala Foundation&#x27;s botanist Derek Johnson will give you an overview of the eucalypt species koalas prefer as food and shelter. Derek will also talk about how the AKF is working to save eucalypts across the entire geographic range of the koala. Derek has worked as a plant ecologist for almost 30 years, having completed regional botanical mapping exercises and floristic surveys over an extensive portion of Queensland, in his role as a senior botanist with the Queensland Herbarium. More recently, he became involved with the Australian Koala Foundation as their botanist. He is also currently the president of the Pine Rivers Catchment Association, which has further increased his interest and concern for the koala.
