Martin Kiernan

Martin Kiernan MPH MClinRes RN

Martin Kiernan has worked in infection prevention and control for 33 years in a variety of settings. He is Visiting Professor at the Richard Wells Research Centre at the University of West London, Conjoint Fellow at the University of Newcastle (New South Wales), Adjunct Honorary Research Fellow, Avondale University (New South Wales) and a Clinical Consultant to GAMA Healthcare.

He is a former Nurse Consultant and Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust in North-West England.

Martin was a member of the Department of Health (England) advisory committee on antimicrobial resistance, prescribing and healthcare-associated infection for ten years and is past president of the Infection Prevention Society (IPS). Along with colleagues from Australia, he co-hosts a podcast series called ‘Infection Control Matters’ focusing on the latest research and other topical issues in infection prevention.

His research interests centre on environmental hygiene, healthcare-associated pneumonia and urinary catheter-associated infection. He has presented at many international conferences and has published over 60 papers and articles in peer-reviewed journals.

David Weber

Professor David Weber is a Professor of Medicine, Paediatrics and Epidemiology, Associate Chief Medical Officer of UNC Health Care, and Director of Regulatory Services for the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute (NC TraCS). Professor Weber is also board certified in internal medicine, infectious disease, critical care medicine and preventative medicine. His research career has focused on healthcare-associated infections, antibiotic stewardship, new and emerging diseases (Pfiesteria, Cryptosporidia, Norovirus) and vaccine implementation. Professor Weber also chairs the North Carolina Department of Health.

David will be discussing 'The role of the environment 'and 'The new paradigm of IPC'

Belinda Henderson

Clinical Nurse Consultant, Belinda Henderson, is one of the Princess Alexandra Hospital’s longest-serving members of the Infection Control team. She has been recognised as a Fellow of the Australasian College for Infection Prevention and Control for her contribution to the infection prevention and control profession through education, research and her leadership Nationally, including her Presidency of the College.

Christine Morrison

Christine has worked as an Infection Control Consultant for the past ten years after discovering her passion for all things microbial and their effect on our everyday lives. Chris’s experience encompasses Acute care, Vascular Access, Public Health, and Community Based Services. Chris is now the National Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Advisor for Aged Care, Calvary Health. Her role supports over 80 IPC Leads in 64 residential Care facilities throughout Australia.

Christine is passionate about ‘demystifying’ the complexities associated with IPC programs within Residential Aged Care Facilities and seeks to create smooth path-ways, to promote ‘Infection Prevention’ as everyone’s responsibility.

Christine will be discussing 'Understanding the role of the IPC lead in Aged Care'

Ursula Howarth

Ursula is a registered nurse and paramedic and has been working for the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) for fifteen years. During this time, Ursula has worked across the state in various roles and after completing a Graduate Diploma in Heath, she committed to a Master's of Infection Prevention and Control that happened to coincide with the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time Ursula worked as one of the two QAS Infection Prevention and Control Clinical Nurse Consultants. 

Ursula will be discussing 'Infection control professionals- how a pandemic changed us. A focus on prehospital care.'
