<p>Joe and Mary Funkenstein’s baby – whom they called Doctor, hoping he’d become one – was born in the stable right next door to Jesus. Doctor kept Jesus awake by endlessly banging on pots and pans, so Joe skinned their only goat to make proper drums, and pretty soon Doctor founded the religion of funk. That’s why funk and Christmas fit so well. Of course sleigh bells can’t really hold a candle to The Funk Klub swinging your hips into action at the Baroque Room.</p>
