Carrick Hill: British-Australian Modernism

I specialise in making the historic interior, art and decor fun and an educational experience. I ama Visiting Research Fellow in Art History at the University of Adelaide and I have published widely on the domestic interior in representation from the eighteenth century to the modern period. My recent books include:Domestic Interiors: Representing Home from the Victorians to the Moderns, (2013), which won theArt Association of Australia and NZBest Anthology Prize in 2014; andDesigning the French Interior: The Modern Home and Mass Media(edited with Anca Lasc and Mark Taylor 2015) both published by Bloomsbury.

<p>On this tour through the decor and art collection of Carrick Hill House Museum, we will be exploring the house as a reflection of dual identities; of the Haywards’ British-Australianness, their Establishment-bohemian-ness, and their ease of negotiation between public and private pleasures. More than a personal and a social history, this tour uses the art works in their collection, and the décor, to explore themes of taste, lifestyle and service. </p><p>Please note the cost of the ticket for the tour includes house entry.</p>
