About this event

The School of Social Science invites you to attend a free publishing workshop on Tuesday 6 September, 4.30pm-6.00pm, facilitated by Professor Lisa Wynn, associate editor of the journal American Ethnologist, and Dr Eve Vincent, discipline chair in anthropology. This event is part of 2022 Social Science Week.

There are all kinds of reasons that HDR students, and even undergraduates, should be thinking about publishing their original research. It helps you get scholarships, it helps you get jobs, and it establishes your credentials as an expert in a field and an active researcher. Yet academic publishing can be daunting for the uninitiated and distinguishing the bogus journals and vanity presses from respected publishers gets trickier all the time. In this seminar, Professor Lisa Wynn will talk about academic publishing strategies gleaned from her own publishing experiences and those of her colleagues, and she'll introduce you to useful, free resources. Dr Eve Vincent will talk about her own experiences of disseminating her research outside of academia, for both popular audiences and policymakers. Their presentation will be followed by time for questions and discussion. This workshop will be useful for HDR students and early career researchers trying to get a handle on the academic publishing world.
