Thank you for your support for Cohousing in Canberra and Australia.Cohousing communities are individually owned houses or apartments with all the usual amenities (kitchen bathroom, lounge, bedrooms), situated on shared land and with a common house/building. The common building might feature an industrial kitchen, library, accommodation for guests and meeting spaces for the community to come together for a variety of activities.My name is Cris and in May 2022 I won the Canberra Innovation Network&#x27;s Adaptive City Challenge, a 3-minute elevator pitch competition sponsored by ActewAGL, speaking on the topic of Cohousing. With the prize money, I am presenting this symposium featuring experts from around the country. Check out the video below of my 3-minute pitch and hear why I think Cohousing could be a solution for the isolation and loneliness we as a society are currently experiencing…Cohousing communities are intentional, self-governing, villages where people live a connected way of life while still having their own personal, private space.Cohousing started in Denmark in the late 1960s and spread throughout Europe, North America and Australia. Cohousing is in high demand around the world.Currently, in the ACT, there is a review of the Planning Act and the ACT Masterplan and with that, there will be a trial of alternative types of housing that sit outside the usual planning for the ACT. This trial includes a mini-Cohousing 3-dwelling development (Stellulata - https://www.stellulata.com.au), and a Cohousing development which is slated for a large site in North Watson.The aims of this symposium are to share information from experts around the country, connect like-minded people and demonstrate to the ACT Government and those in planning that Cohousing – a more connected way of living - is something Canberrans want.This Symposium will feature speakers from across Australia, with experience planning, creating, delivering and living successfully together in Cohousing communities.
