This class has received the Weekly Workshop Award for Adelaide fringe 2024/25 and was also a finalist in fringe 2025.
Indonesian batik has been titled the Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Your teacher, Rehana, has spent months at the National Batik Museum Jakarta to learn this beautiful art.
Bring a friend along or come solo to learn this beautiful and relaxing art. It may sound challenging, but you'll be guided by Rehana step-by-step to finish your very own batik scarf or table runner. You'll learn to use special batik tool Tjanting and brushwork to make beeswax resist method textile print.
After trying out this unique textile art you'll be very tempted to make another, as the results are very rewarding and the craft itself is such a mindful and relaxing activity. Some talks, nibbles, tea/coffee and loads of creativity.
These sessions are great for team building activities, birthday parties, friends to unwind together or for anyone looking for a unique new skill.
What to bring- An apron and a plastic bag to take your piece home.
This class will go ahead if there's a minimum number of 4 people. Otherwise, it will reschedule to the next date.
Bring some cash along if you wish to buy an discounted batik kit to pursue it further.
