To celebrate NAIDOC 2022 - Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!

To celebrate NAIDOC 2022, Sunshine Coast Council invites community to attend it’s annual flag raising ceremony. This civic event showcases the Sunshine Coast First Nations community by highlighting the significance of First Nations connection to Country, their values and their culture. NAIDOC stands for the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee. It is a significant week in the Australian calendar, to celebrate and recognise the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week happens each year between the first and second Sundays in July.PLEASE REGISTER FOR THIS FREE EVENT.Proudly supported by Sunshine Coast Council.

The theme for NAIDOC 2022 is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! NAIDOC 2022 invites the nation to embrace First Nations’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage and equally respect the culture and values of First Nations peoples as they do the cultures and values of all Australians.Hosted at the Nambour Library Forecourt, the NAIDOC 2022 Flag Raising Ceremony will include special First Nations performances and presentations. Event co-hosts: <ul><li>Lachlan Anderson - Commercial Partnership &amp; Programs Manager, Indigenous Workstars.</li></ul><ul><li>Ebony Stow - Reconciliation Action Plan Project Officer, Sunshine Coast Council.</li></ul>Presenters include:<ul><li>Mayor Mark Jamison - Sunshine Coast Council</li></ul><ul><li>Uncle Tais K'Reala Randanpi - Kabi Kabi Traditional Custodian</li></ul><ul><li>BJ Murphy - Jinibara Traditional Custodian</li></ul><ul><li>Wayne Levy - Environmental Officer, Sunshine Coast Council</li></ul>Performances from:<ul><li>Wakka Wakka Dancers</li></ul><ul><li>Wagga Torres Strait Islander Dance Company</li></ul>More to be announced.
