Community First Development - Inaugural Fellow's Oration - Donna Stephens

Community First Development is a national First Nations’-led community development and research organisation. We are a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation and provide tailored support to achieve the long- and short-term economic, social and health aspirations of First Nations’ communities. On 30 June 2023, we celebrated 3876 projects, over 1000 community engagements and registration of over 3,000 volunteers with specialised skills.

Inaugural Research & Evaluation Fellow's Oration with Donna Stephens.

At Community First Development, &#x27;research success&#x27; is research that is requested, led and delivered by First Nations&#x27; people and communities. It is undertaken through deep listening and strives to achieve the outcomes that communities have set out to achieve. The First Nations Research and Evaluation Fellow is a pathway for First Nations&#x27; academics to explore, design and deliver evaluation and research projects driven and led by First Nations&#x27; people and communities. Community First Development launched the inaugural Fellowship in 2020. As part of the Fellowship Murran/ lwaidja woman, Donna Stephens, our first Fellow, took a lead role in a participatory action research project with 11 communities across Australia. The final report has been published, and findings have been presented at numerous events. Donna will speak on Participation and Community Development: Reflections on Change Organisations ABOUT DONNADonna-Maree Stephens is an lwaidja woman of the Muran clan, northwest Arnhem land, with 30 years of experience in education and research in the Northern Territory, focused on community engagement and educational and workforce outcomes for First Nations&#x27; people. She is currently the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Workforce Development and Support Unit Coordinator at the Aboriginal Medical Service Alliance of the NT (AMSANT).
