Bringing Them Home is the final report of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families and was conducted by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (now called the Human Rights Commission) between 1995 and 1997.The Report acknowledged that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children had been forcibly separated from their families and communities since the early days of European occupation in Australia. These children are now known as the 'Stolen Generations'.The Report also recommended that a national 'Sorry Day' be held each year to commemorate the history of forcible removals and the ongoing effects of these removals on individuals, families and communities.On 26 May 1998, the first National Sorry Day was held to commemorate the anniversary of the Report and to remember the grief, suffering and injustice experienced by the Stolen Generations._____________________________________________To help with event planning we ask that you register your attendance through Eventbrite.Let’s look after each other: If you are feeling unwell, please stay home and watch the livestream.
