He grew up on the northern boundaries of the Kosciuszko National Park and still skis over 100 days a year. Adventure travel and skiing have always been a large part of his life, including sailing across the Atlantic, driving a Kombi through Africa, and skiing in many locations in North America and Japan. Since 2012 he’s been guiding backcountry tours in Australia and Japan. Avalanche awareness and backcountry safety are an integral part of guiding and it was an obvious progression for him to train with Avalanche Canada as an instructor.Craig Sheppard (MSC President) was initially engaged by MSC as Program Director, tasked with developing a meaningful Alpine Hazard Bulletin platform consistent with international standards. This was very exciting for us, and really a key part behind the need to drive membership to help fund this project along side government agencies and the RMB’s. Not as exciting as when he stepped into the President. Now Australia has the best qualified snow safety professional in the land heading up both the org and the ops. Congrats Craig!Drew Jolowicz (Arc’teryx Ambassador) was born in the cradle of the Victorian Alps and took his first steps on skis….well not quite, but not far off it. Living in Bright and skiing at Hotham, he spent his childhood ski racing before making the switch to free-skiing and backcountry ski-touring. Still based at Hotham with his family, Drew spends his winters exploring the back-country and has a deep passion for the Australian Alps. Having recovered from a traumatic knee injury and rescue in the back-country himself he looks forward to sharing his insights on safety and preparation so everyone can enjoy our stunning mountains. Drew also has some special images to share from touring the Victorian high country. Lewis Foster (Arc’teryx Ambassador) is a mountain guide, climber, splitboarder and hiker, who knows the Australian Alps like few others. The Thredbo native spends his days as Head Guide for K7 Adventures, passing on hard-earnt skills developed in Chamonix and a lifetime of exploits in the Snowy Mountains. In his spare time, he can be found on remote peaks, stringing together high lines in search of yet another way to experience the mountains.Alex Parsons (MSC) has snowboarded her way around Japan, Korea, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, writing for snow publications along the way. She once went six years without a summer. In previous lives, Alex was a snowboard instructor, media coordinator and Olympic course builder but now you can find her as Head Guide for Thredbo's Backcountry Tours. Alex loves to share her passion for snow and the alpine environment with people and is a strong advocate for women in the backcountry. Alex has many tales to tell - like the time she was bitten by a snake on a remote expedition and couldn't get a rescue for 13 hours. But that's a story for another time.
