Help older people and people with disability find affordable ways to get online, get the right devices, manage their data, and more.

Training for support workers, and family or friend carers, who care for older people and people with disability.

31 May and 7 June 2022, 10am to 11am each day.For older people or people with disability, it can be hard to afford getting and staying online. Data plans and mobile devices can be difficult to understand, and it can be difficult to work out what is most cost effective. For some people, using broadband internet may be next to impossible, so mobile plans and free data may be the only option.Helping your loved ones get online can make it easier for them to keep in touch with you, their family and their friends. It can also widen their social horizons, and give them access to all sorts of social and cultural activities. Older people or people with disability can get more control over the changing world around them.This training is designed for family or friend carers of older people, or people with disability. It will help you give more power to your loved ones to stay engaged. You&#x27;ll be trained to guide your loved one through the maze of options for getting online, and to know what to look for in finding the most affordable and useful ways to be digitally connected.Topics covered include:<ul><li>How to choose a smartphone</li><li>How to choose a mobile phone plan</li><li>How to reduce data usage</li><li>Where and how to access free WiFi</li><li>How to use a phone as a WiFi hotspot</li><li>How to manage passwords for maximum security</li><li>Accessibility options on smartphones and tablets</li></ul>This training is delivered in two sessions:<ul><li>Session 1: Tues, 31st May @ 10am-11am</li><li>Session 2: Tues, 7th June @ 10am-11am</li></ul>This training is offered in partnership by <a href="https://innersydneyvoice.org.au/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Inner Sydney Voice</a> and <a href="https://counterpointcs.org.au/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Counterpoint Community Services</a>, and supported by a City of Sydney COVID Quick Response Grant. Training sessions are provided by <a href="https://www.yourlink.com.au/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">YourLink</a>.
