Key Note Speakers

Hannah Gould – The Australian Good Death Study

Hannah Gould is a cultural anthropologist working in the areas of death, religion, and material culture. Her research is focused processes of disposal and divestment, in regard to both the human dead and material artefacts. Dr Gould holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Melbourne and a Masters degree in material anthropology from Oxford University. For her doctoral research, she investigated how cultural traditions around death can themselves ‘die’, be replaced, or transformed. This research will be published in “When Death Falls Apart”, out with University of Chicago Press this year. Dr Gould is currently the recipient of the Melbourne Postdoctoral Fellowship, for the project "Mobile Mortality: Transnational Futures of Deathcare in the Asia Pacific". Along side academic events, she collaborates closely with professional organisations and community groups in her role as President of the Australian Death Studies Society.
