Description

UNSW's 2017 Formulated Materials Forum

Formulated materials are a broad class of fluids designed as value-added products or product precursors in fields like foods, coatings, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and advanced materials. These materials have a huge economic and technological impact on industry and society, yet there is no unified community of practice for people working in the formulated industries. Industries working with formulated materials derive enormous benefit from institutional memory and experience, but there is also a need to expand and accelerate technical training in this area, for new as well as experienced employees.

The forum will bring together speakers from a range of companies and universities to discuss their experiences, needs, and opportunities in the field of formulated materials. We will also share UNSW Chemical Engineering’s plans for education, research, and training efforts in this domain.

Three themes will be covered:

Community - Many industries value-add through formulation expertise, but more could be done with an active community of professionals and practitioners.

Research - How do practitioners more rapidly acquire and apply new research insights and partner with leading researchers?

Education - Hiring the best-trained students, and sharpening current employees' skills, keeps you ahead of the curve on new techniques, technologies, and partnerships.
