The City of South Perth will be hosting a variety of low cost workshops and professional development sessions throughout August and September alongside the Emerging Artist Award. The programme is open to both Award entrants in the early stages of their artistic careers and creatives who are keen to develop their skills.  Brush Lettering Workshop | The Articulate Tash from The Articulate is a hand letterer and calligrapher based in Perth, Western Australia. Her brush lettering workshop will explore the basics of how to create beautiful hand-drawn typography using your very own Tombow brush pens to take home. You’ll learn the basic techniques, strokes and letterforms before plunging straight to create your own brush lettering piece. Attendees will go home with new techniques, inspiration and enthusiasm for expressive hand lettering! Suitability: Secondary School Age and above / Beginner - Experienced Date/Time: Sat 27 Aug / 10am – 1pm Venue: Halo Expresso Cost: $45 per person + booking fee Gourmet refreshments provided Children’s Book Illustration Workshop | James Foley Fremantle Press illustrator James Foley will lead you through the creative process for a hypothetical picture book, showing you how to develop characters and storyboards. Bring your favourite drawing materials; paper supplied. Suitability: Adults / Beginner – Intermediate  Date/Time: Sat 3 Sept / 10am – 1pm Venue: Halo Espresso Cost: $30 per person + booking fee Gourmet refreshments provided Needle Felting Workshop | Bonnie Boogaard Needle felting is a wool fibre based textile method that is a relatively simple and therapeutic craft. You can learn the art of needle felting from scratch or refine your existing skills to create any object or character of your choice to take home! All materials included. Suitability: Adults / Beginner - Experienced Date/Time: Thurs 8 Sept / 6pm –8.30pm Venue: Library Function Room, City of South Perth Civic Centre Cost: $15 per person + booking fee Tea, coffee and water provided CANCELLED - Artwork Photography Workshop | Eva Fernandez Practice creating an effective artwork photography space with studio lighting alongside professional photographer, Eva Fernandez. Attendees can bring along two of their own 2D artworks to the workshop where they will be photographed.High resolution, colour corrected files for print and web will be supplied after the session. Suitability: Secondary School Age and above / Beginner - Experienced Date/Time: Sat 10 Sept / 10am - 1pm Venue: Reception Room, City of South Perth Civic Centre Cost: $40 per person + booking fee Tea, coffee and water provided CANCELLED - Public Art Masterclass | Alison Barrett &amp; Anne Neil A two hour intensive to help artists explore how to bring their work to the public. This workshop is for artists new to working in public art and open to artists working in all media who are interested in bringing their practice to the public.The purpose of this workshop is to assist participants in formulating a thorough response to an artist brief as well as preparing and delivering a professional concept.

Suitability: Adults / Intermediate - Experienced Date/Time: Tues 13 Sept / 5.30pm – 7.30pm Venue: Reception Room, City of South Perth Civic Centre Cost: $30 per person + booking fee Tea, coffee and water provided Grant Writing Workshop | Department of Culture &amp; the Arts A comprehensive workshop which will provide participants with an overview of the funding available through the Department of Culture and the Arts funding programs, along with must know information and helpful tips on putting together a competitive application. Suitability: Secondary School Age and above / Beginner - Experienced Date/Time: Thursday 22 Sept / 4pm – 5.30pm Venue: Reception Room, City of South Perth Civic Centre Cost: Free Tea, coffee and water provided Screen Printing &amp; Natural Dyeing Workshop | Louise Snook Participants in this one day workshop will learn two exciting textile techniques, screen printing and natural dyeing. Starting with the preparation of the dye pots, students will develop four colours using locally sourced plants. Fabric will be provided and shibori folding methods discussed so that the most stunning results can be achieved. Whilst the dye pots are bubbling, students will be introduced to the cut stencil method of screen printing (screens and fabric inks are provided). Repeating designs and layered multi-colour prints will be explored. Bring only your inspiration and an apron, this school holiday special is not to be missed.  Suitability: Secondary School Age and above / Beginner - Experienced Date/Time: Mon 26 Sept / 10am – 4pm Venue: City of South Perth Community Hall Cost: $40 per person + booking fee Tea, coffee and water provided / BYO Lunch Emerged Artist Talks | Artsource In association with the City of South Perth, Artsource will deliver a series of artist talks with four artists, from 4 different graduating decades, sharing their experience of the changing face of ‘emerging’ since the 1970’s. Hear from Claire Bushby, Jurek Wybraniec, Dr Perdita Phillips and Antony Muia about their practices as they discuss their experience of being an emerging artist. Emerged is the opportunity to gain some insight into the evolution of change as well as the consistency that has remained in emerging visual art over the years.
