Threatened Species Day Workshop

Discover how local restoration work is helping native wildlife recover after severe storms and get involved in giving our threatened species a helping hand.

Over the past year, Leach Reserve has undergone important restoration following major storm damage. Watergum has worked alongside Scenic Rim Regional Council to make the reserve safer, improve access and restore valuable habitat for native wildlife.

This workshop is delivered by Watergum in partnership with Scenic Rim Regional Council as part of the Wild Tamborine: Restoring Habitat for Threatened Species project.

Workshop Agenda

The workshop will begin with a welcome and introduction from Watergum Community and Scenic Rim Regional Council, sharing an overview of the restoration works undertaken at Leach Reserve and the projects supporting these efforts.

Participants will join a guided walk through the reserve, exploring storm recovery actions, habitat improvements, and restoration works supporting native wildlife. Conservation Arborist Harry from D’Anoia Tree Services and Landcare will discuss restoration outcomes and the habitat structures that have been created for threatened species.

Participants will also take part in a ground asparagus control demonstration, learning how to identify and manage this invasive weed through practical hands-on activities. Contribute to habitat improvement and learn why weed management is vital in restoring habitat for threatened species.

The workshop will finish with catered morning tea, providing an opportunity to connect with other participants and ask questions of the experts about restoring and protecting habitat for threatened species.
