Rasma will teach ONE wheel forming course in Term 4. This course will consist of eight sessions, fully completed within a four week period.

Classes will be held on a Tuesday and Wednesday evening each week, and run for 4 weeks, 6pm to 8:30pm.

Class dates are:

  1. Tuesday 10 November
  2. Wednesday 11 November
  3. Tuesday 17 November
  4. Wednesday 18 November
  5. Tuesday 24 November
  6. Wednesday 25 November
  7. Tuesday 1 December

This change is due to Rasma’s personal timetable, however, it is anticipated that two nights in a row of wheel forming will truly help students to consolidate new skills.

TEACHER PROFILE

I have a degree in Fine Art, completing 5 years of full-time study at The National Art School, Sydney in 1978. This is where I met and fell in love with clay! I also attended the Ivan Englund Pottery School workshop in Sydney at that time, in addition to participating in numerous ceramic courses and workshops over the years.

I am a current member and teacher at CCPSI. I have my own kiln and have experience and knowledge in successfully glazing, packing and firing ceramic pieces.

I have a strong community spirit and aim to provide all students with the opportunity to increase their ceramic knowledge, experience and skills, in a safe, cooperative, respectful and caring learning environment.

COURSE OUTLINE

In this class, you will learn the fundamental techniques of throwing clay on a wheel, by wedging, centring, opening out, pulling up and forming a basic cylinder. You will also learn how to turn or trim and finish the base of a leather hard pot.

Opportunities to decorate, underglaze, slip trail and apply glazes to your bisque fired work will also be given.

SKILLS OUTCOMES

On completing this course, students will have been given opportunities to and have developed skills in:

• Wedging a piece of clay;

• Centring a piece of clay;

• Creating a basic cylinder;

• Attaching a handle to a mug or jug;

• Making cylinders in a consistent size to create a uniform set;

• a range of additional skills associated with each student’s individual project;

• applying under-glaze and glaze;

• carving/sgraffito;

• gain some understanding of different clay types and cones and equivalent temperatures

Clay allocation:

8 kg of stoneware clay is included in the class cost, as well as all firing and glazing required for this amount.

Members and non-members are able to purchase an extra 2 .5 kg for $40 which includes glazing and firing based on members rates, if they require further clay beyond the clay allocation for this class. Members are not permitted to bring their own clay to use in this class.

Please note, students are asked to only book into a maximum of two classes each term to support opportunity for others to attend.
