Disease Management Extension Network workshop - MILDURA

Practical strategies for disease management, fungicide stewardship and resistance management

Managing crop diseases is becoming more challenging. Fungicide resistance is reducing available control options, disease pressure varies between regions and crops, and the decisions made today can affect both this season’s yield and the effectiveness of fungicides into the future.

The Disease Management Extension Network (DMEN) workshops are designed to help growers and advisers build the knowledge and practical skills needed to make confident, long-term disease management decisions.

Designed to address region-specific disease challenges, this workshop in Mildura will provide practical, science-based guidance on disease identification, fungicide stewardship and integrated disease management.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with disease experts from CCDM, SARDI, FAR Australia and Agriculture Victoria and explore real-world scenarios that reflect the decisions being made on farm each season.

Morning sessions focus on practical disease management and what best practice looks like across local farming systems. In the afternoon, we delve deeper into the science, exploring the latest research findings, emerging issues, and what they mean for disease management recommendations this season.

What’s covered:

• Why fungicides fail and factors driving resistance
• How fungicide resistance develops, and what it means for key mode of action groups
• Disease identification for key regional diseases
• Integrated disease management strategies including crop rotations, variety selection, timing, rates and non-chemical options
• Practical fungicide stewardship including product selection, application tactics and strategies to prolong effectiveness
• Scenario-based decision-making exercises that balance disease control with resistance management

Who should attend:

This workshop is open to growers, agronomists, advisers, consultants and others involved in crop disease management and fungicide decision-making. Places are limited to keep discussion practical and focused.

This workshop will be facilitated by Bill Long; Managing Director and Principal Consultant, Ag Consulting Co and Belinda Cay; Director, AgCommunicators.

Participants will receive a resource kit that includes GRDC publications, copies of presentations and regional reference documents.
