How does AI shape the way meaning is created, interpreted, translated, and communicated? Join us on 6 May at 4:00 pm in LTB 393 for a timely and thought-provoking panel bringing together Dr Ward Peeters, Dr Jim Hlavac, and Dr Trang Vu for a rich conversation at the intersection of language, technology, and human understanding. This event explores one of the most urgent questions of our time: what happens to meaning when language meets AI? As AI becomes increasingly present in writing, translation, education, media, and everyday communication, it is changing not only how we use language, but also how we interpret intention, nuance, culture, and trust. This session invites you to think more deeply about the role of AI in shaping communication and meaning in a rapidly changing world. The discussion brings together three complementary perspectives. Together, our guest speakers will help unpack how AI affects not only language production, but also interpretation across cultures, languages, and contexts. The event will be especially valuable for students and staff interested in linguistics, applied linguistics, translation, multilingualism, AI, communication, education, and digital society. It offers a chance to engage with current ideas, hear from experts working across disciplines, and reflect on how emerging technologies are transforming the way meaning is made and understood.
