Join us on our Permaculture Farm, in our bush kitchen and outdoor classroom, to learn the art of home canning and preserving! Are you ready to take control of your food supply, savor the flavors of seasonal produce year-round, and master a timeless skill? Join us for an Introduction to Home Canning Workshop, where you’ll gain the confidence to safely and deliciously preserve your own food. Led by Kirsty Bertè, a seasoned Permaculture Practitioner, homesteader, and the founder of Permaculture Hawkesbury Valley Inc., this workshop is perfect for beginners and those looking to refine their skills. With over 25 years of experience in canning and preserving, Kirsty will share her expertise, passion, and practical tips to help you succeed. In this hands-on session, you’ll learn the essentials of waterbath canning for high-acid foods like jams, chutneys and relishes, and pressure canning for low-acid foods like vegetables, meats, and soups. Together, we’ll use fresh, local ingredients to create a jar of perfectly preserved goodness that you’ll take home, along with a comprehensive booklet packed with all the knowledge and recipes you need to continue your canning journey. We will be using a waterbath and pressure canner during the class, ensuring you walk away with the skills to use both canning methods. What You’ll Learn: • Safe and simple techniques for preserving both high- and low-acid foods using both a waterbath canner and pressure canner.• Detailed information on using canning equipment, tools, and seasonal ingredients.• The joy of turning local or home grown produce into pantry staples that last all year!
