Who is this weekend for?

Those who love to create! You could be an artist, builder, composer, designer, engineer, filmer,  gardner, hacker, innovator, jeweler, knitter, lapidist, modler, nutritionist, origamist, painter, quiltist, roboticist, sculpter, tailor, upcycler, vocalist, welder, tweeter, youtuber, or a zine-maker!

Is the event free?

Accepted Answer

The Terrible Ideas Hackathon is free for all UNSW students, staff, and alumni. 
All others are welcome at a cost of $30 to pay for food during the weekend :)

Question 3

I don’t have much experience making things, or I’m not sure I’ll be the right fit for this event.

Accepted Answer

Absolutely – bring your friends too (but make sure they register)! Whether you’re gluing cardboard together, developing algorithms, or writing a 5,000-word Shrek fanfiction, we’d love to have you on board. If this is your first time and you’ve got no idea what to do, we’ll have plenty of support!

What should I try and get out of the event?

We hope first and foremost that you’ll have a chance to make some friends, learn new things, and have a bit of fun.  While celebrating bad ideas you'll push the boundaries of what you are capable of, learn to work with a team, and ultimately develop the skills needed to make "not terrible" ideas!

What should I expect from the weekend?

We’re excited to say that for over 50% of you, this will be your first time participating in a hackathon. If you’re one of the many who’ve decided to give this a shot, go you! 
You'll forming teams, determine what you want to make, and spending the weekend making it a terrible reality!

Question 6

Will we be working in teams? Is there a max team size?

Accepted Answer

We strongly encourage everyone to work in teams! You’re welcome to bring friends and make a team with them, but many people will also be forming teams on the night.
The maximum team size is 10. We tend to find that teams work best between 3-8 people.
