Andy White at Merri Creek Tavern Northcote
Belfast songwriter poet beat producer & lately Melbourne legend Andy White returns to his favourite venue in town. And it's his birthday!
Andy is back in the fabness of the Merri Creek Tavern for a birthday show this coming May 28.
The Merri Creek Tavern is beautiful but tiny so get your tickets quick. Doors are 7.30 p.m. and the show starts at 8.30 p.m.
40 years ago, Andy's first album 'Rave on Andy White' blew the doors off the indie charts in post-punk Ireland then a series of literary/acoustic/electric albums took this Belfast songwriter around the world.
Introduced to Australia by Tim Finn and Liam O Maonlai while playing together as ALT , Andy has been based here ever since. Recording and releasing albums, writing with the likes of Peter Gabriel, Kev Carmody and Christine Anu, continuing the collaboration with Tim Finn with the 2023 album 'AT'.
Andy's live album about when his friend and recording mentor John Leckie (Radiohead, Muse, Baba Maal producer) wanted to buy a CD like the gig he had just attended – solo and live. He suggested to Andy that they record a show in the best-sounding room in the world.
Since the Merri Creek Tavern was a little far away, John booked Abbey Road Studio Two (yes, the one you've seen in the Beatles photographs) and on July 14 they recorded the two-CD / one-LP set 'The night is approaching though some would say it was morning'.
Its title is the first line of 'Vision of You', one of Andy's career-defining songs, and BBC Radio One DJ Janice Long's favourite. The album is dedicated to Janice, without whom Andy would not be playing on May 28.
It will be a great night. Good luck we hope you make it.
