Ghan International Film Festival (GIFFA) will feature high-quality short films (up to 40-minutes duration) plus one feature film. The films will be amateur and ambitious cinema, with a high artistic value, tackling both independent and original themes.The highlight for 2016, 17 and 18 was the special screening of the Oscar award nominated films such as Boz Kashi Boys, DAY ONE and more, this year films to be announced soon.Following on from the success of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Ghan International Film Festival Australia in 2016, 2017 and 2018 this year’s GIFFA 2021 will present a festival of original films from Afghanistan film made by a filmmaker from around the world.The primary aim of GIFFA is to support the underprivileged or homeless young children who are beholden to the strife of being in a war-torn country. GIFFA works to provide education, food, and shelter for the street children and to alleviate the suffering of their destitute parents.Every dollar spent on your purchase tickets or that you donate to GIFFA will be passed on to children and their families in Afghanistan, in this difficult time. GIFFA greatly appreciates your generosity. These children are especially prone to physical and sexual abuse. We believe that our communities, people here and the general public will participate in the festival and can contribute to making a real difference in the lives of these children.GIFFA also aims to bring together people from mainstream and culturally and linguistically diverse [CALD] backgrounds to explore The Festival which runs over two evenings and features independent, artistically ambitious short films. These extraordinary films challenge stereotypically negative views of Afghans, who continue to make high-quality films even as they struggle to survive. GIFFA also reflects the long-standing relationship between Australians and the Afghans who first arrived here in the 1860s ( The Afghan Cameleers) and enriched the local culture with their music, dance and cuisine. We invite you to join us to celebrate this very special film event and sample our Afghan saffron tea.
