UNSW Orchestra 2026 Auditions: Percussion

Rehearsals are every Tuesday 6:30-9:00pm during the academic term at the Sir John Clancy Auditorium UNSW, conducted by Steven Hillinger. The UNSW Orchestra is a fixed ensemble and therefore it is expected all members will return each term to play unless discussed prior with the conductor and the Music Performance Unit.

All members of the UNSW Orchestra are required to audition.

Percussion auditions will take place from 10am-1pm on Friday, 13 February, room 306 Robert Webster Building. Please register for your audition before Wednesday 11, February at 11:59pm.

This year the auditions will be conducted as Live Video Auditions for later review by the panel member (no panel member will be present in the room at the time of your audition).

Live Video Auditions

Auditionees will be given 15-20mins to video record themselves on their own device (mobile, iPad/tablet or laptop) performing two brief contrasting unaccompanied works (can be a solo or an orchestral part). Please note there are two auditionees per timeslot, with a 5 mins change over between.

Instruments provided will include: Marimba, vibraphone, snare drum and timpani.

Once recorded, auditionees will need to send their audition video to cmc@unsw.edu.au before 2pm the same day.

Please note, a room with the listed instruments will be provided on the day for your audition, however mallets and sticks will need to be requested in advance of the day, if you do not own your own set by emailing the MPU office: cmc@unsw.edu.au

Should auditionees wish, they can choose to submit a pre-recorded video audition instead (see below).

Pre-Recorded Video Auditions

If you are unable to attend the auditions in person, please select the video audition option.

Video auditions are due before 9am on Wednesday, 11 February.

Please email your video audition to cmc@unsw.edu.au via the file sharing service of your choice (Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer etc.) Please ensure your video file is clearly labelled with your full name and instrument.

For your video audition you are required to:

1. Play two pieces unaccompanied

2. Play an orchestral excerpt which will be emailed to you on Monday, 9 February
