Voyage of Musical Discovery | Cultural Narratives (Brisbane)

The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra specialises in historically informed performance of late 18th- to early 20th-century orchestral and chamber music repertoire on period instruments and is at the forefront of the historically informed performance scene, staying abreast with the latest research and developments around the world by collaborating with key guest musicians and musicologists. The orchestra's twin goals of performance and education are delivered through live concerts, collaborations with guest ensembles, radio broadcasts, innovative education programs, pre-concert presentations and specialist online resources.

ARTISTS &amp; PROGRAMAustralian Romantic &amp; Classical Orchestra<ul><li>Joseph EYBLER | String Quintet in D major (date unknown)</li><li>Franz SCHUBERT | Octet in F major, D.803 (1824)</li></ul>William Barton &amp; Véronique SerretWilliam BARTON &amp; Véronique SERRET | Heartland and Kalkani______________________________________________________________________________________________________The <a href="https://www.arco.org.au/voyage" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Voyage of Musical Discovery</a> series was established and designed by the Australian Romantic &amp; Classical Orchestra and its founding artistic director and world-renowned educator, the late Richard Gill AO. The second Voyage charts the links between music, culture and narrative. From a European epicentre of arts and science, the concert begins by exploring the works and stories of two Viennese Romantic composers. That one is almost entirely unknown today and the other famous and admired suggests as much about culture and politics as it does about musical skill.

The second half finds common ground between two instruments of different cultures – the didgeridoo and violin. Together William Barton and Véronique Serret trace improvised musical pathways, and hold a mirror up to the multilayered stories of contemporary culture and place.______________________________________________________________________________________________________This program is closely aligned with the QCAA secondary school music curriculum and ideal for Senior Music and Music Extension students in preparation for their internal assessments and external exams, as well as being appropriate for year nine and ten elective music students.______________________________________________________________________________________________________For school group or subscription bookings, please email boxoffice@arco.org.au.
