From 21st September to 1st October, the #ClimateTalks Global Festival presents conversations between specialists from universities around the world.It’s your chance to hear from the experts who are actively working to take climate action, whether it’s through economies, governance, communications or pure innovation.Run by the International Universities Climate Alliance, all are welcome and students who attend receive a Statement of Attendance.<h2>Solutions using circular principles </h2>Tuesday 21st September / 10.00am -11.30 am London <a href="https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Solutions+using+Circular+Principles+&amp;iso=20210921T19&amp;p1=240&amp;ah=1&amp;am=30" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">See event in my time zone</a>You’ve probably heard about a circular economy, but how can it actually work in different countries and industries? This session will explore green chemistry, sustainable materials, how sustainable businesses will change the way the think about economies and end-to-end life cycle of the everyday products.Event will be moderated by:<ul><li>Pippa Corry is the Founder &amp; Director of philo &amp; co, a circular economy consultancy that specialises in creative agency and brand partnerships.</li></ul>Speakers &amp; Panellists: <ul><li>Professor Antonio Patti research interests cover a range of related areas that relate to green chemistry principles.</li><li>Dr. Daan Schraven has a passion for major changes in the construction sector. In line of this, his main research interests lie in the circular and sustainability transition in the construction industry.</li><li>Associate Professor David Peck researches and teaches in the field of critical materials and circular design. This session explores how universities are working with the big players on regulation, environmental politics and accounting to accelerate climate action.Event will be moderated by:<ul><li>Dr Rebecca Green is a Lecturer and researcher at UNSW Art &amp; Design (Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture) and an experienced graphic designer and illustrator. Bec researches the visual communication of Climate Change, highlighting the impact of graphic design on the uptake of, and trust in strategic climate messaging. </li></ul>Speakers &amp; Panellists: <ul><li>Cheryl Durrant has over 30 years experience in the national security sector, including specialist Army intelligence and Defence capability and preparedness roles. </li><li>Associate Professor Fengshi Wu is a world leading scholar in environmental politics, state-society relations, and global governance with the empirical focus on China and Asia. </li><li>Dr Maria Balatbat is a Senior Lecturer at the Business School at UNSW and Fellow of CPA Australia. Maria’s research interests include integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) dimensions in investment decision making.</li><li>Dr. Deborah Barros Leal Farias is a Brazilian-born Senior Lecturer at UNSW Sydney&#x27;s School of Social Sciences, where she teaches Politics and International Relations. </li><li>Associate Professor Ignacio Herrera Anchustegui is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bergen. Join us as our experts talk us through the opportunities innovation can bring to communities, and uncover some of the tools and resources students are already using to make it happen.Event will be moderated by:<ul><li>Associate Professor Carol Oliver is a science communication researcher and teacher at the University of New South Wales in Sydney with a background in print, radio, and television media journalism.</li></ul>Speakers &amp; Panellists: <ul><li>Professor Jason Sharples is a mathematical scientist and internationally recognised expert in dynamic bushfire behaviour and extreme bushfire development. </li><li>Dr Christian Schott is an Associate Professor of Tourism Management at Wellington School of Business and Government, Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University of Wellington in Aotearoa New Zealand. </li><li>Matt Parker is a game designer, activist, new media artist and Professor at the NYU Game Center. </li><li>Professor Alberto Troccoli is the co-founder and Managing Director of WEMC and a visiting professor at the University of East Anglia (UK). He has over 25 years of experience in the fields of meteorology and climate, and in the last 10+ years has been exploring their applications in the energy, and other, sectors. </li></ul><h2>IBM presents the future of climate</h2>Friday 24th September / 2.00pm - 3.30pm Sydney<a href="https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=IBM+presents+The+Future+of+Climate&amp;iso=20210924T14&amp;p1=240&amp;ah=1&amp;am=30" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">See event in my time zone</a>Addressing enterprise decarbonization and climate resiliency goals with advances in AI, hybrid cloud and quantum technologies.Event will be moderated by:<ul><li>Dr. Kamna Sachdeva is in the domain of climate change and air pollution management and heads the department of Energy and Environment in TERI School of Advanced Studies.</li></ul>Speakers &amp; Panellists: <ul><li> Jitendra Singh is a research scientist at IBM Research, where he is leading Climate-informed Business Application sub-theme for the Future of Climate. </li><li>Michael Wang plays an important role in developing the weather business in the region, by providing thought leadership in technical discussion and solutioning for clients in various industries. </li><li>Yean Feng Yue is currently the Asia Pacific leader spearheading IBM’s Global University Programs across India, Greater China, Korea, ASEAN and Australia/ New Zealand. </li></ul><h2>Climate communications in the media </h2>Tuesday 28th September / 10.00am -11.00 am London <a href="https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Climate+Communications+in+the+media+&amp;iso=20210928T19&amp;p1=240&amp;ah=1" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">See event in my time zone</a>This session shares a case study on the Australian media landscape and discusses the latest research on visual design in climate communications. Event will be moderated by:<ul><li>Randy Muñoz is a Peruvian PhD candidate at the Geography Department of the University of Zurich in Switzerland. His current research focuses on the assessment of water management sustainability in the Andes.</li></ul>Speakers &amp; Panellists: <ul><li>David Holmes is Director of the Monash Climate Change Communication Research Hub as well as Communications Lead for the Australian Government’s National Environmental Science Program, Climate Systems Hub. The good news is there are ways to challenge perceptions and lower barriers to behavioural change. Event will be moderated by:<ul><li>Professor Matthew England is Scientia Professor of Ocean &amp; Climate Dynamics at the UNSW Climate Change Research Centre and Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science.</li></ul>Speakers &amp; Panellists: <ul><li>Prof. Ben Newell is Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Deputy Head of the School of Psychology at UNSW Sydney. His research focuses on the cognitive processes underlying judgment, choice and decision-making . A key theme of Ben’s work is over-coming the myopic thinking that tends to cloud our judgment when we are making decisions about an uncertain future. </li><li>Dr. John Cook is a postdoctoral research fellow with the Climate Change Communication Research Hub at Monash University. John’s research focus is on using critical thinking to build resilience against misinformation.</li><li>Dr. Sarah Perkins-Kirkpatrick is a Senior Lecturer/ARC Future Fellow in the School of Science, UNSW Canberra. Sarah is a climate scientist specialising in extreme events, and is passionate about science communication. </li></ul><h2>Climate messaging </h2>Thursday 30th September / 10.00am –11.00am Auckland<a href="https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Climate+Messaging&amp;iso=20210930T08&amp;p1=240&amp;ah=1" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">See event in my time zone</a>How does our brain respond to storytelling? Understanding the psychology of communications can help us understand how to deliver messages on climate change more effectively. Event will be moderated by:<ul><li>Dr. Yi-Ling Hwong is a postdoctoral research associate at the Climate Change Research Centre at UNSW. She specialises in cloud process modelling to improve the accuracy of climate predictions.</li></ul>Speakers &amp; Panellists: <ul><li>Associate Professor Carol Oliver is a science communication researcher and teacher at UNSW Sydney with a background in print, radio, and television media journalism. Carol’s research focus is on the effectiveness of science communication. </li><li>Dr. Lucy Richardson is a postdoctoral research fellow with the Monash Climate Change Communication Research Hub. Lucy researches Australian climate change audiences and their responses to messaging, and how messages are presented in the media. </li></ul>
