South Eastern Community Connect (SECC) is a community centre just for YOU.We run Supported Playgroups in a big, friendly hall opposite Mascot Memorial Park.We also host groups in Kensington Park, Zetland and Eastlakes.We also host courses to help parents, as well as programs for people from all walks of life.Our services are available toallpeople in the LGAs of Botany Bay, Port Botany, Mascot, Randwick, Woollahra, Waverley, and City of Sydney.SECC is managed by a voluntary board of directors made up of local community members and services. <ul>Note: This course is open to residents of the following LGAs: City of Sydney; Bayside; Randwick; Woollahra; and Waverley. Please checks email and call from us after the booking as final confirmation is required to assist us with the contactless delivery of the course materials.The No Scaredy Cats Sessions will be recorded. By continuing to register for this course and attend the Zoom sessions, you are consenting to be recorded. You can also choose to not have your video on during the sessions.No Scaredy Cats is a program for parents and carers of children aged 4 -12 years.South Eastern Community Connect will be running the three week program at the following times. Lesson materials will be provided.<ul><li>Sunday 22nd of August, No Scaredy Cat Zoom Session 1 (1pm to 3pm)</li><li>Sunday 29th of August No Scaredy Cat Zoom Session 2 (1pm to 3pm)</li><li>Sunday 5th of September No Scaredy Cat Zoom Session 3 (1pm to 3pm)</li></ul>The No Scaredy Cats program promotes: <ul><li>Anti-fragile thinking skills and resilience;</li><li>An understanding of how anxiety develops, and how to prevent it.</li></ul>The benefits to you:Theories and strategies discussed in this course are evidence-based, with research studies showing their effectiveness. A FOCUS ON LOCUS OF CONTROLResearch studies over the last 20 years have shown the importance of Increasing Internality of Locus of Control. Children who have a high external locus of control have higher rates of anxiety and depressive symptoms, and those that have a higher internal locus of control have a greater ability to manage adversity and stress. Children can be supported to develop an internal locus of control with techniques for how to give children more control over their lives. MANAGING ANXIETYThis workshop on anxiety is based on brain studies which focus on the role of the prefrontal middle cortex and the amygdala.It allows parents and carers to understand where fear and anxiety originates, how children&#x27;s minds work; and how they can get control over different parts of their brains.By understanding the role of the amygdala as the child’s protector, teachers and parents can help children to manage their emotional reactions to adverse events.These sessions, run by Ruming Yang, will equip you to assist your child in managing everyday anxieties.
