Wondering how to get into the workforce after graduating? Find out firsthand from professional conservators how they established their careers at our 2021 Jobs Panel.Our 2021 Jobs Panel will be held online over Zoom on Wednesday the 11th of August, between 6:30-8:00pm.The panel will go for an hour, followed by half an hour of Q&A. Our panelists this year are: Hanna Sandgren, Camielle Fitzmaurice and Irene Finkelde, who have all pursued diverse career paths in conservation after graduating from the Masters of Cultural Materials Conservation at the University of Melbourne. Hanna Sandgren is the managing director of Studio M., who specialise in the conservation and restoration of vintage posters. Studio M. works collaboratively with Care of Studios, Kyi Conservation, and OCM (Objects Conservation Melbourne). Hanna has completed a conservation internship at the Queensland Museum (2015), a specialisation in paper conservation at the University of Canberra (2017), and a Karibari Masterclass at the State Library of Queensland (2018). Camielle Fitzmaurice works at Grimwade Conservation Services (GCS), specialising in paper and photograph conservation. Camielle has also worked for the National Library of Australia, and has been the recipient of the William Snoek Award (2018). In 2021, she received the ISSN George Alexander Fellowship, focusing on book conservation and upskilling in order to establish a semi-formal hub for book conservation in Australia. Irene Finkelde is trained as an objects conservator and has an interest in the conservation of natural science collections, plastics, and preventive conservation. Upon graduating, she was granted a Smithsonian Postgraduate Fellowship in the Conservation of Museum Collections, focusing on fluid preserved specimens and methods to test and identify fluid types. Irene has since worked on projects for the Australian Museum, The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, and the University of Melbourne. The Jobs Panel will provide students with the opportunity to talk directly with professional conservators about their careers and their advice for emerging conservators.
