Come celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first raising of the Aboriginal flag and its journey from a symbol of protest to national icon

Join us on the 50th anniversary of the first raising of the Aboriginal flag on Monday 12 July from 5.30pm at the opening of our new exhibition Black, Red &amp; Yellow: Unity and Identity.The flag was designed by a Territorian, Harold Thomas, a Luritji/Wombai artist from Alice Springs.Featuring photographs, paintings, prints and memorabilia, the exhibition will track the journey of the flag from a symbol of protest to national icon and consider the significant moments that were instrumental to its wider acceptance.The opening will include a panel discussion about the history of the Aboriginal flag, its unifying powers and role in the fight for social justice. Please arrive at 5.30pm for a 6pm start. The exhibition is on display at the Northern Territory Library at Parliament House from Tuesday 13 July 2021 until Sunday 17 October 2021.
