OUR SPEAKERSThis event is open to the public and our expert speakers will discuss and take your questions on Empowering personal change for pregnancy and child health.Professor Megan Warin, Research Leader, Robinson Research Institute / Director Fay Gale Centre for Research on Gender, University of Adelaide.Megan Warin is a social anthropologist and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences and has over 2 decades of research experience in investigating how people attend to food and eating in everyday lives. Her research takes her into communities and homes where people often experience hardship and are trying to juggle many competing priorities in the context of family life. Poverty, under-employment, mental health and poor housing all impact on people’s capacity to eat, and to eat well. With colleagues, Megan has explored the ways in which women and mothers are positioned in many of the key debates around parenting and obesity, highlighting the historical and contemporary importance of gender, social class and race that are smuggled into popular and scientific accounts of nutritional education, developmental origins of health and disease and epigenetics. As well as obesity, Megan has a long-standing interest in eating disorders and has published widely in this field. A/Professor Leonie Heilbronn, Group Leader, Obesity and Metabolism Lab, Adelaide Medical School, University of Adelaide / Lifelong Health Theme, SAHMRILeonie Heilbronn is an internationally recognised translational investigator in obesity and diabetes research. She has a particular interest in role of meal timing and fasting, on health and metabolism and has contributed to current concepts of calorie restriction, intermittent fasting and time restricted eating. She has published more than 125 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and has a current h-index of 42. She is an Associate Editor of Obesity and Obesity Research and Clinical Practice, Vice President of the Australia and New Zealand Obesity Society, and an Associate Member of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.A/Professor Philippa Middleton, Principal Research Fellow, Women and Kids theme, Aboriginal Communities and Families Research Alliance (ACRA), SAHMRIPhilippa Middleton is a maternal and child health researcher, working in nutrition, preterm and stillbirth prevention, Indigenous health, equity and health literacy. She holds an NHMRC Investigator award and is a chief investigator on three NHMRC Centres of Research Excellence. She is part of a SAHMRI team working with SA Pathology to offer omega-3 fatty acid testing for pregnant women in SA and provide supplementation for women with low omega-3.Dr Jessica Grieger, Research Fellow, Robinson Research Institute, University of AdelaideJessica Grieger completed her PhD at Deakin University in Melbourne and went on to complete a post-doc position at Penn State University in the USA. Her research focuses on metabolic health as the interface between maternal nutrition and future pregnancy and offspring health. She leads research investigating nutrition in infertility cohorts, as well as lifestyle factors in relation to pregnancy complications and biomarkers of aging in children. Verity Booth, PhD candidate (HDA Scholar), Alliance for Research, Nutrition and Activity (ARENA), University of South AustraliaVerity Booth is studying physical activity and sedentary behaviours of children and adolescents. She is currently working with Active Healthy Kids Australia to create the next Report Card on children’s participation in physical activity and is also an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with an interest in paediatrics. She has a general interest in helping children become more active and strongly believes in the importance of lifelong movement. OUR CHAIRProfessor Claire Roberts (HDA Co-Convenor), NHMRC Leadership Fellow / Professor and Matthew Flinders Fellow / Group Leader, Pregnancy Health and Beyond Laboratory (PHaB Lab), College of Medicine and Public Health, Flinders University.Claire Roberts is an internationally recognised authority and thought leader in placenta research. She has a strong interest in genetic and modifiable lifestyle factors including maternal nutrition that contribute to health in pregnancy and long into the future for mother and child. She has lead research on large human pregnancy cohorts in Adelaide since 2005.This event will be held under COVID-SAFE guidelines. Seating will be limited.
