This extended 2-part workshop is for people considering turning their thesis into a book.

<h2>Are you wondering about the role of books in communicating your research? </h2>Books are a mainstay of academic practice across a range of disciplines. Even in areas that don't normally produce research in book form, books can be a meaningful way of translating research and reaching a broader public. But how to go about it? This 2-part workshop is designed to help prospective book writers to understand the landscape for scholarly book writing and to engage in some reflection about their own publication goals. The workshop takes place across two days as follows:Part 1 (Thursday 26 Nov, 11-2pm): Panel and MasterclassHear from a panel of writers and professionals involved in the publishing industry about their views on academic books, why to write them, and how to go about it. Facilitated by celebrated book writing historian Prof Clare Wright (LTU). Then, join Prof Phil Hayward (UTS) for a masterclass on preparing books for publication: the key considerations, strategies, and approaches needed. The masterclass involves a workbook that participants are encouraged to take a way and complete ahead of Part 2.Part 2 (Fri 27 Nov, 11-12.30pm): WorkshopUsing the materials provided in Part 1, join colleagues in a cross-disciplinary discussion of the strategies and ideas developed through the preceding day's activities. Facilitated by the RED Team.Who should attend?This workshop is open to all La Trobe researchers, but will be particularly useful to graduate researchers and ECRs who are considering publishing their research in book form.
