THE EVENT IS ALSO BEING LIVESTREAMED ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT ATTEND IN PERSON.The annual Eric Johnston lecture has been a part of the Library's events calendar since 1986, with the inaugural speaker being then Administrator of the Northern Territory Commodore Eric Johnston. This year's Eric Johnston lecture will be presented by Thomas Mayor; a proud Torres Strait Islander man who was born and raised on Larrakia Land in Darwin. Thomas has tirelessly advocated for the proposals in the Uluru Statement, and is the author of ‘Finding the Heart of the Nation – the journey of the Uluru Statement towards Voice, Treaty and Truth’, published by Hardie Grant. His book tells his story, the story of the Uluru Statement and the remarkable people that he met on his campaigning journey. A children’s version of the book was published in June 2020.Thomas will be speaking at the annual Eric Johnston lecture on Wednesday the 11th of November at 5.30pm. His lecture is titled ‘When the Dreaming Becomes Us’. Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony in person or online via live streaming. COVID -19 protocols and social distancing measures are in place at Parliament House. Places are limited and bookings are essential. Please stay tuned for the live streaming link which will be added a half an hour before the lecture starts on our Facebook event page.
