NEAL Workshop: Field Recording at Home

Learn how to create and use field recordings in this workshop facilitated by experimental Australian musicians.

In this one hour online workshop, you will learn how to create your own composition like Habitat. Habitat is an experimental music project by Vicki Hallett, Jeremy Alsop and Steve Falk which combines field recordings of the endangered African forest elephant and improvised live music.
This event is recommended, but not limited to, participants aged 14-25. Vicki will show you how to make field recordings using common household technologies, such as phones and laptops. Using your immediate domestic space as your site, you will explore the aural possibilities of your direct environment.

(Pictured) Vicki Hallett is a composer, musician and sound artist. She has composed, produced and performed in live concerts, solo recordings ranging from chamber music to sound art and acoustic ecology. Through a unique approach combining acoustic ecology, scientific analysis and innovative performance practices, Hallett reshapes the role of interdisciplinary research. This exploration has led her to develop a collaborative concept with Cornell University&#x27;s Elephant Listening Project as well as performing in South Africa on Mabolel Rock with a pod of Hippopotami.<a href="https://www.vickihallett.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">www.vickihallett.com</a>The New and Experimental Arts Laboratory (NEAL) is an epicentre of exciting creative practice in music, sound and visual art for Geelong. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/nealexperimental" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">www.newandexperimentalartslaboratory.com/</a>This will be a free online workshop and participants must register for the event in order to gain access to the link required to join.
