In the waning days of their last summer of high school, a large group of suburban teens spend their days hanging around a mangsoshake stand (it’s like a lemonade stand, but with mangos), trying to kill time before something bigger happens. Ego and romantic troubles collide, leading to the formation of a rival chow mein stand, though this rivalry is little more than a jumping off point for a sprawling portrait of angst and longing in an age when it seems like the world is ending every other day. A DIY masterpiece about modern ennui made by the teenagers themselves at the front line, Mangoshake is, to quote its own opening text, “for every person who watches a coming of age movie and feels way worse after.”
