A designer by training, Dr Zena O'Connor is one of a handful of people with a PhD that investigated the interface between colour and human response. In 2006, Zena established Design Research Associates and the Colour Collective Sydney in 2017.Zena creates educational content and delivers seminars, CPD workshops and university lectures (University of Sydney, University of NSW and Sydney Design School). Start anytime!  This Colour Fundamentals course is an online 12-week course that gives you foundational knowledge about colour.

This Colour Fundamentals course allows participants to learn online at their own pace. Each session is a stand-alone component that blends colour theory with fun, practical exercises. Starting from the day you place your booking, you&#x27;ll be emailed each component on a weekly basis (from Week 1 through to Week 12). Each component includes detailed worksheets, practical exercise templates and a PowerPoint, and represents 3 hours of interactive learning.At the conclusion of the course, you&#x27;ll gain foundational knowledge about colour theory and application, and have the confidence to work with colour from an informed perspective. Learning outcomes:1)	Distinguish between and explore categories of colour, conceptual colour models, and colour notation systems; 
2)	Explore, examine and identify colour attributes including hue (primary colour and secondary colour), tonal value (tonal value scale) and saturation; 
3)	Distinguish between and explore colour nuances including tertiary colour, tints and shades; 
4)	Distinguish between and explore the impact of achromatic colour nuances including chords and keys;
5)	Explore and experiment with colour combination strategies including analogous colour, monotone and monochromatic colour.
6)	Build a resource that collates and illustrates foundational colour theories and key colour strategies for future application.
Participants will be emailed each week with their course component and can access the course provider at any time via email - zena@zenaoconnor.com.au Course cost - $495 for the full 12-week course payable through Eventbrite. Duration – 12 weeks, 36 hours in total Colour Kit – each participant receives worksheets and templates for the practical exercises of each component. Materials required – You will need to buy an A4 visual diary and scissors, cutting knife, glue and double-sided tape. Plus, interior design magazines and commercial paint chips (available from Dulux, Resene Paints and Bunnings). Prerequisites – No prior knowledge or experience is necessary. The course content is relevant to interior designers, graphic and visual communication designers, fashion designers, theatre and makeup designers, and digital designers. 6 Formal CPD points for architects and designers. The content of this workshop is linked to the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA) National Standard of Competency for Architects (2015 edition) and addresses the unit of competency of ‘Design’ and the specific elements of ‘Pre-Design’ and ‘Conceptual Design’. Performance criteria: 2.6 Preparation and analysis of project development options in response to project brief. 3.1 Design response integrates the objectives of brief, user intent and built purpose.
