CHALLENGE WORKSHOP

IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES FOR TCF PPE IN THE MINING & RESOURCES SECTOR

PPE - poor fit, lack of comfort, one design does not fit all and poorly constructed garments - fact or fiction?

A recent PPE Survey conducted by the M-Tex Collaborative Network suggests that current PPE for most mining and resource operators is OK at best.

Site operators appear to have key wants that are only partly being delivered while there seems to be little knowledge on what is actually available and the potential cost savings and productivity improvements appear to not be fully realised.

The next M-Tex Challenge Workshop will debate (and test) the validity of these findings with representatives from both the TCF and mining and resource sectors.

Key speakers:

+ MEGAN DAVISON - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, VICTORIAN DIVISION, MINERALS COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA - speaking on trends in the regulatory environment

+ COLIN FARRELLY - PARTNER/OWNER, INDAGO PARTNERS - and CONVENOR OF THE MINING STREAM for the AUSTRALIA 3.0 FORUM - providing an outline of drivers for the mining sector and the implications of their intersection to occupational health and safety

Specific issues to be discussed include:

+ The disconnect between the designers / producers of PPE and the end-user, including a lack of communication around their respective knowledge and understanding of what is needed and what is available.

+ Acknowledgment that while it is recognised that PPE products need to meet certain standards / benchmarks, it is often taken for granted that compliant product is being supplied without any real verification process to ensure this.

+ Understanding the genuine value of providing TCF PPE products that meet the varying and unique needs of different mining / resource conditions so as to ensure optimum health and safety of workers and enhance company productivity. This currently does not appear to be recognised in the procurement decision process.

Speakers from the mining and resource sector will also provide an outline of their experiences with PPE, both with that what works well and where improvements are required.

This free workshop is an opportunity to voice your views on PPE for the mining and resource sector - in addition to gaining an appreciation of the leading edge PPE both general and specialised that is available.
