Description

Mr Stephen Gerlach AM, Chancellor of Flinders University, invites you to an exclusive event.

2014 marks the bicentenary of the passing of our namesake, the navigator Matthew Flinders, and the publication of the influential A Voyage to Terra Australis.

A memorial statue, designed by British sculptor Mark Richards FRBS, honouring Matthew Flinders’ contribution to Australia, will be unveiled on the 200th anniversary of his passing. The memorial will be situated on the main concourse of Euston Station, in north London, where Flinders’ remains are rumoured to be buried under platform four or five.

We hope you can join us in Adelaide for a unique parallel event to share the British commemorations and meet some direct descendants of Matthew Flinders, including Fiona Salmon, Director, Flinders University Art Museum.

We will be screening exclusive footage direct from London of the official unveiling of the Matthew Flinders Memorial Statue and we will have works on display from the University’s special collection.
