About this event

  • 3 hours

Have you ever looked up to the night sky and wondered how you can capture its beauty?

Our workshop will provide you with the knowledge and tuition you need to photograph the milky way and night sky.

During this 3-hour workshop you will capture the setting sun before learning the fundamentals of low light photography. You will be guided by Samyang ambassador Benjamin Eriksson, who is a Mornington Peninsula local. Throughout the workshop you will have the opportunity to shoot with Samyang’s range of wide-angle lenses that are fantastic for night photography and will have access to Benro tripods to ensure your camera stays steady and sharp for the long exposures.

The location of Cape Schanck presents countless photographic opportunities, from the iconic lighthouse to the beautiful vegetation, roaming boardwalks, and lookouts over Bass Straight.

In this workshop we will cover:

• Camera equipment – camera bodies, lenses, tripods, and accessories

• Settings for shooting astrophotography (understanding the exposure triangle)

• The benefits of different focal lengths and aperture speeds

• The importance of manual focus

• How to obtain interesting compositions in the dark

• Adding a human element into your night shots

• Using light to illuminate a foreground (LitraPro/torches)

• Planning your astrophotography and nighttime shoots

• Samyang lens use (including the Astro favourite 14mm 2.8 lens)

Places are limited to 10 attendees, ensuring that Benjamin and the Croydon Camera House team can give you lots of one-on-one guidance.

A little about Benjamin Eriksson

I have used photography to tell my stories to my clients for over 9 years.

I am a Melbourne based workshop, corporate headshot, lifestyle, and events photographer. I love to teach and run varying photography related workshops across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Since 2017, I’ve enjoyed teaching over 450 people on photography workshops and at photography industry events. My personal work is heavily influenced by atmospheric optical phenomena; and my photography style is a direct reflection of my personality: creative, curious, adventurous, passionate, enthusiastic, and fun. I love taking photos between the hours of sunset and sunrise. I love photographing the stars, moon and any astrological event when clear skies allow. I am an Ambassador for Samyang Optics Australia, Benro Australia, Tenba Bags Australia, Nanlite Australia and Athabasca Filters Australia.

Ben is a Parks Victoria licensed tour operator on the Mornington Peninsula.
